About Kids in the Nest
Educational Society
Kids in the Nest Educational Society, (KITNES)
is a Canadian non-profit society. KITNES is
backed and run by a team of volunteers, wildlife
experts, and teachers. This Society brings
together a very diverse and talented group of
people together into one active working program.
The Society's purpose is to educate children and
increase awareness of nature habitat, issues
affecting the environment, ecosystem, and
climate changes with emphasis being placed on
the importance of higher learning
KITNES is a fun and interactive educational
program that features live cameras and on-line
links with connected children from around the
world. Currently, one can view a number of live 24/7
cams showing water
hole in South Africa, an eagle's nest in Maine
USA and in excess of 50 hand picked kid family
friendly live animal cams. An Eagle cam has now
been set up in Chilliwack, British Columbia,
Canada, and is ready to go live. This camera
will allow views to view the mating of these
eagles, laying of the eggs, hatching, feeding
and the adult eagles doting over their chicks up
to and including the moment of fledging. You
will not miss a moment of this 24/7 action. Our Pelco cameras are equipped with night vision,
sound, pan & tilt.
You can actively participate by becoming a
member of our
free forum., or you can just sit back, pull
up a chair for a few moments during your busy
day and enjoy
Mother Nature unfold before your eyes. We
recommend that you place a monitor where all
will have the opportunity to share these
experiences.
Below is a quote from one of our many members
retelling how this experience has impacted on
his life.
I, for one, would like to say
that being a member of the Eagle-Cam and Chat
room Clan of eagle fanatics has been a true joy
and learning experience without peer. I have
smiled, laughed and almost fallen off my
computer chair from extreme mirth while watching
and reading about Lil'let and Big'let. At times
my eyes have teared from the sheer joy of
watching such majestic creatures in their
natural habitat raising the next generation of
eagles...
...And, the information shared by all,
especially by some of the raptor experts, has
made this experience an event not soon to be
forgotten. To have been able to watch and hear
the Saanich eagle family over the course of
several months is an experience I shall treasure
for the rest of my life.
The KITNES Logo
"When Ms Charlie asked for a logo for 'Kids
in the Nest' I could instantly see the logo"
says the Kids in the Nest Educational Society's
logo designer.
Here are the artist's interpretations of the
KITNES logo:
-
The Eagle represents an Elder figure
such as a teacher, parent or protector.
-
The white circles in the eagle represent
the breath of life.
-
The circle on his throat area represents
vocals or what will be said or taught.
-
And the eye of the eagle represents
knowledge.
-
The designs in the wing imply growth or
transformation.
-
It starts changing from one feather form
line to another. The wing swoops around to
form the nest-like shape protecting the
children while completing a circle to help
illustrate the global aspect of the project.
-
The children represent the four
directions or four corners of our Earth.
-
There are three children in the nest and
the viewer makes up the fourth child because
no matter where you are, you represent your
home and native land.
-
The children are reaching forward
towards the eagle for wisdom, assurance and
protection.
